The evacuated plate panel resulted from a seven year research programme conducted by Professor A G Williamson at the University of Canterbury.

The panel is a flat-plate version of the heat-pipe (evacuated tube) and Thermocell have marketed this innovative panel to New Zealanders for over 25 years. The panel has proved extremely efficient and reliable. It is accepted in the solar market as an industry leader.
